Grand opening set for Tiffany Derry's new restaurant

Ever since Go Fish Ocean Club closed in November 2010, local fans of Dallas chef and former Top Chef contestant Tiffany Derry have been yearning for the day when her new concept would open.

And now, we have a date: the grand opening of Private|Social, in Uptown Dallas (3232 McKinney Ave.), is September 24th.

According to a press release, Private|Social is "where the casual and upscale effortlessly mingle, creating an ideal setting for elegance with ease. While menu is chef-driven, it remains accessible to every palette and every wallet."
When I interviewed Tiffany in March, she told me a little about her plans for the menu: "The seafood that I’m going to serve will be all sustainable. The farms that I use will be straight farm-to-table. If I get pork, I want to get no-hormone. If it’s not fresh or in season I don’t want it anywhere near me. I’m going to do a small menu, not gonna have tons of things just sitting in the house. I’m going to print menus daily. And I want to have a playfulness to the menu, so what you read is not always what you get."

However, a few of the dishes on the opening menu will include Chef Derry’s famous “Top Chef Pork Buns” made with crispy pork, slaw and herbs; White Sturgeon, made with blue crab chowder, pancetta and licorice; Braised Beef Cheek with pepperoni sauce, a side of cheese grits and herb salad and finishing with desserts such as “Tiffany’s Grown Up Banana Split.”

The restaurant's name refers to two distinct physicals areas and decor themes. The two areas are divided by a glass wine wall and metallic chandelier. According to the press material, "Private" is an intimate dining area with exotic wood tabletops, leather chairs, and circular banquettes; "Social" is a lounge area with concrete floors, a large Cesar stone U-shaped bar, and window-front banquettes and tables for casual and communal dining and shared plates.
