Most days, my in-box is reliably filled with local musicians letting me know about various upcoming gigs. But it's rare to get a note that also says the band performing has a hand in the venue space itself.
Such is the case with the existing Airlock 3 Studios, a rehearsal space in an industrial complex just outside of Denton that, on Aug. 6, will play host to the Demigs, Shiny Around the Edges, the Neeks and Kaleo Kaualoku.
Shows at Airlock 3 Studios, says the Demigs' Chris Demiglio, are intended to be a "DIY, reoccurring, house-show-type set-up" where every performance gets recorded, no cover will be charged and food will be on hand. Demiglio says Shady Lane Studio, where the Demigs recorded its most recent LP, Cities Can Wait, will primarily play the role of "sound and recording" at Airlock 3, "as well as partial liaison, so we can put people together to make 'er work."
Other collaborators include Dang! Studios and folks from the recently launched Dentoneer blog and I Love Math Records.
"It's more about the bands and catching a good live performance than anything else," Demiglio says.
