Jose Mora couldn't stay away.
Gone from the business for seven years, the founder of Casa Jose Cafe in Arlington has reopened a small restaurant back at his original corner: Daddy Buelo's.
The service isn't as snappy as it was at Mora's old restaurant, which burned in 2003. But the food has Mora's San Antonio spice, particularly the enchiladas and the carne guisada.
Daddy Buelo's is open for lunch daily, dinner Thursday through Saturday, and breakfast Saturday and Sunday; 2247 S. Cooper St., 817-303-5423.
Even The Original Mexican Restaurant has to change.
Now claiming to be in its 86th year, The Original is remodeling the bar and adding a larger patio behind the restaurant.
Also new: jalapeño-Monterey Jack tamales.
The Original is written into food history books for its "Roosevelt Special" combination, named for 1930s Fort Worth resident and frequent customer Elliott Roosevelt, son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Another Arlington name is coming to Fort Worth: Mijo's Fresh Mexican Food.
Mijo's, known for fish tacos and fresh salsas years before the Baja-style taco craze, replaces a Thai cafe at 1109 W. Magnolia Ave.; 817-927-3220, www.mijosfreshmex.com.
It's not Restaurant Week yet, but Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse is serving a summer special.
Get a three-course dinner for two for $99: filet mignon and crab cake plus a salad, side dish and dessert.
The special is good through Sept. 5 at most locations; 812 Main St., 817-877-3999, www.delfriscos.com.
Reservations are open for Restaurant Week, Aug. 15-Sept. 4, during which $35 charity benefit dinners are offered. For the list, see dfw.cbslocal.com/krld-restaurant-week/.
Update: Billadelphia's Authentic Philly Foods, the Bedford cheesesteak stand, will close Tuesday and look for a new home.
The original plan to move nearby fell through, owner Bill Walter said.
Tuesday, six years to the day after opening, Billadelphia's will sell Phillys for $5 until sold out; 4105 Airport Freeway, 817-684-8607, www.billadelphias.com.
