National BBQ Tour hits Fort Worth

Posted 3:59pm on Thursday, Apr. 12, 2012

The big boys in the BBQ world showed up in Fort Worth this weekend competing for $20,000 in prizes. The Inaugural Sam's Club National BBQ Tour regional event was Saturday in the very hot Sam's store parking lot off of Bryant Irvin Road. I have watched a few episodes of BBQ Pitmasters on TLC and the event went pretty much like those shown on the first season of the TV show, minus a lot of the drama. Everybody here seemed to like each other? There were turn-in times, BBQ, and a lot of smoke.

Johnny Trigg, one of the stars on BBQ Pitmasters was competing. King of the Grill, Troy Black, was also giving a BBQ demo. A couple of the teams gave out BBQ samples after each turn-in. After a few samples I decided I need to get certified as a KCBS (Kansas City Barbeque Society) judge, just in case they come back next year. But they might think twice about that after experiencing one of the hottest summers I can remember.

The City of Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival has a KCBS event for the State Championship this September 3rd and 4th, and hopefully it should be a little cooler.
