This was closer than you'd think, especially if you're one of those people quick to dismiss Steak 'n Shake as a chain that has seen much better days. The OC burger was big and bursting with broiler flavor. But the double patties were overcooked, and the broiler flavor overwhelmed the lettuce and tomato. Would Steak 'n Shake pull off the upset? Its Double Steakburger packs more fresh-beef flavor than the OC, and the long-cut pickle slice made the decision tough. But the pale tomato, too-strong Thousand Island dressing and bitter mustard-relish wrecked all hope. The winner: OC Burgers
