Sergio Garcia, Ryan Palmer shine at the Byron Nelson

Posted 12:20am on Saturday, May. 28, 2011

After the Celebrity-Am at Vaquero kicked off the Nelson-week festivities, everything was in place for another big week as the PGA TOUR continued its run in DFW at the ritz and glitz of the Four Seasons in Las Colinas. Then mother nature decided to get involved on Tuesday evening and what ensued was one of the most insane hail storms in recent North Texas memory. Following the huge cleanup and repair before, during and after the big Wednesday Pro-Am, the professional golfers took to the TPC Four Seasons for this year's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

As we ventured through the crowd of over 61,000 fans that apparently blew off work for Friday at the Nelson, it was hard to pay attention to the golf action as beautiful women were EVERYWHERE. When my buddy Russ tried to justify the fact that we had no clue of what was going on in the tournament by bringing up all of the golf action we followed between Rickie Fowler and David Toms last week at the Colonial, I glanced over to a leader-board and saw big names atop it. Colleyville resident Ryan Palmer scorched TPC in posting -8 after two rounds to comfortably sit in first place after the morning round. In the afternoon, 2001 Colonial champion and 2004 Byron Nelson champion Sergio Garcia posted his second consecutive -4 under 66. This all comes on the heels of the Spaniard having to withdraw from Monday's British Open qualifier at Gleneagles in Plano due to an infected fingernail on his left hand. With these two absolutely dialed in and Nick Watney and Jordan Spieth within reach, the weekend is set up for some excitement.

And then there is the always epic 'Nelson scene.' While the Pavilion is always going to be a great mixture of pure beauty and craziness, we opted to hit the after-party at the Four Seasons resort pool. The only way to gain entry to this exclusive event was to be a PGA TOUR player, a member of The Sports Club or a guest at the resort. It certainly had the vibe of an LA party as beautiful girls hung by the lagoon-style pool and every table was full of VIPs. There was also live music on the far side of the cabana that played deep into the night.
