We are three weeks away from Major League Baseball's Opening Day as the Rangers host the Red Sox in Arlington. On March 7th, Sundance Square celebrated its own version of a sports fan's opening day as the highly anticipated Frankie's Sports Bar opened its doors on the ground floor of The Carnegie building across from the Central Library.
Frankie's is destined to be one of the coolest hangouts in Fort Worth. Expect many of TCU's hottest coeds that are usually spotted down on West 7th to include this new spot in their 'places to be seen.' Upon entry, it is evident to my buddy Scott and I that Frankie's is in a different league than other Fort Worth sports bars. The 8,000 sq ft sports bar features 57 flatscreens including three giant projection TVs. To the left of the entrance you will find pool tables. There is a VIP lounge in the back officially known as the "Sky Box" -- unofficially it is called the "Pimp Room." It has room for 16 with three flatscreens and features a view of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington that encompasses the entire room. It comes with a price tag of $350 minimum that can come from bottle service, beers, food or a combination.
The extensive menu offers a little something for everybody. I sampled the Chicken Breast Strippers with BBQ sauce and fries while Scott had chili. We were both very impressed with the quality for a place that had been open all of 45 minutes. Other items that caught my attention included the Hawaii Five-O pizza with shaved Canadian bacon and pineapple relish, Kobe Bryant's Half Court Sliders, and the PGA Club sandwich. Frankie's offers a Sat/Sun brunch from 11:00am to 3:00pm that includes Lee Trevino's breakfast tacos. And I must mention the Yokozuna burger that is $29.99 and weighs in at five pounds. If you can finish the burger in 30 minutes, it is free -- no word on if the ensuing trip to the hospital is complimentary.
Frankie's has a selection of 90 beers, shots that include Honey Dew Me, cocktails such as the Perfect Patron Margarita and Texas Iced Tea and martinis such as Ladies Night and Cosmic Cowboy. All day every day features include $5 Red Bull & Vodka and $18 buckets of beer. They also feature a 'Build Your Own Bloody Mary' bar on weekends until 3;00pm.
Grand opening festivities set for this weekend, March 11-13, will include many of the liquor companies on hand which translates into their hot promo models being in the house. After visiting Frankie's in Sundance Square, I can not think of any reason to go to any other sports bar in Fort Worth.
