It's time again for bigger-than-ever Cowtown Marathon

Posted 1:43pm on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011

The Cowtown Marathon has always been a great party downtown. But with record numbers of runners participating in 2009 and '10, the party (and its accompanying races) moves from Sundance Square to Will Rogers Memorial Center. It's also split into two days.

So stretch and drink plenty of water because the 33rd Cowtown is on pace to be the biggest yet, with 23,000 to 25,000 participants anticipated. Here's a rundown of Fort Worth's big running weekend:

Friday and Saturday: Health and Fitness Expo

Saturday: 10K, 5K and children's 5K (7, 8:15 and 9 a.m.)

Sunday: Half-marathon, marathon, ultra marathon (7 a.m.)

Parking: Runners who park at Will Rogers Center (to pick up their packets as well as on race day) will have to pay $5. Free parking is available at the Farrington Field lots and at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, one of the race sponsors. Shuttles will run from the Tandy Center parking lots, as well as several downtown hotels. Runners are advised to arrive early to avoid traffic.
