The Austin eight-piece Soul Track Mind blends funk, soul, R&B, jazz and rock into a thick sonic stew that will satisfy even the pickiest ears. Soul Track Mind's debut album, Ghost of Soul, is a throwback record that nevertheless feels modern. They'll shake the walls at Lola's Sixth Street at 10 p.m. Friday with help from a similarly-inclined outfit a bit closer to our area code: the Black & Blues. Tickets are $8 for the over-21 crowd, $10 for the unders.
Speaking of local acts who defy easy categorization -- the six-piece Hanna Barbarians will play Saturday at the Moon, along with Somebody's Darling and the Hormones. The Barbarians are working away on a full-length album, which should be out later this year. You can keep up on the band's website, hannabarbarians.com.
