Hangin' with the cool kids on the Dan Patrick Show

There has been plenty of press on the fact that ESPN is indeed set up in Sundance Square. While the sports colony in the center of downtown Fort Worth is a sight to behold, the SportsCenter anchor that was always their best is no longer with the network. Dan Patrick left ESPN back in 2007 to launch the nationally syndicated The Dan Patrick Show, which is syndicated nationally on FOX Sports Radio and broadcast Monday thru Friday --8:00am to 11:00am CST -- on DirecTV Channel 101 as well as FOX Sports Net. In DFW, the show can be heard weeknights from 9:00pm to midnight on The Ticket. He also hosts NBC's Football Night in America on Sunday evenings during the NFL season.

As ESPN was hitting the airwaves live from Fort Worth, I was over in Victory Park for a behind-the-scenes view of Dan Patrick and his crew, "The Danettes." In case you have not discovered this entertaining show yet, the Danettes are Paulie, Seton, McLovin and Fritzy. The backdrop for the show was an ultimate traveling "Man Cave." Their RV is nestled into a spot on the corner of Olive and Victory across from American Airlines Center and the W Hotel and comes complete with a football field with goal posts, a parquet basketball court that rivals the old Boston Garden and, of course, a mechanical bull. The mobile studio is in between the basketball court and the bull and is complete with five flatscreens hooked up to the DirecTV "Sports Mix", sports banners and actual desks set up for this group of five really cool (well four cool guys and McLovin) to squeeze in some occasional work between all of the fun they were having.

To kickoff Super Bowl week in DFW, the guest list included the NFL Network's -- another former ESPN personality -- Rich Eisen and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Upon arrival, Eisen was upset with McLovin for not properly plugging his NFL podcast -- which can be found here (I don't want Rich to be mad at me) -- and even found time to ride the mechanical bull between segments.

Mark Cuban arrived to much fanfare as the big question was how much money he had on him. In the end the guys all guessed low as the billionaire owner of the Mavs actually had $358in his pocket. They talked about Clippers rookie Blake Griffin and Mark Cuban's Super Bowl party. When asked if he would ride the mechanical bull, Cuban emphatically replied "Hell no!." He opted instead to shoot baskets with Dan Patrick.

My favorite aspect of the entire experience was watching the guys from the show hang out and mingle with the fans. All of the people that came out got to stand on the edge of the football field and get an up close view of the show. These guys really know how to have a good time and their enthusiasm was contagious on the fans.

The Dan Patrick Show will broadcast live 8:00am to 11:00am all week from Victory Park. Star-studded guests who are scheduled to appear include Emmitt Smith,Troy Aikman, Jimmy Johnson, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Daryl Johnston, Kevin Kolb, Mark Sanchez, Brooklyn Decker, Adam Sandler and MORE.
