The ultimate (expense account) steakhouses

Posted 12:25pm on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011

If you're in Texas, on business or pleasure, chances are you are already sharpening your knife (and your tastebuds) for some of our famous beef. Lucky for you, there is certainly no shortage of great steakhouses. Here are five of our favorites that are worth splurging.

Pappas Bros.: Yeah, it comes from the Houston family that also brought us Pappasito’s, Pappadeaux and Pappas Burgers, but Pappas Bros. offers the finest steak-eating experience in North Texas. Order the New York strip, and you’ll have dreams about the butter-swept, salt-and-pepper crust long after your meal is over. 10477 Lombardy Lane, Dallas; 214-366-2000; www.pappasbros.com

Del Frisco’s: In a town loaded with high-end steakhouses (Ruth’s Chris, Shula’s, Bob’s, Eddie V’s, etc.), Del Frisco’s is the gold standard, not only for its impeccably marbled beef but for it’s elegant atmosphere. 812 Main Street, Fort Worth. 817-877-3999. www.delfriscos.com

Al Biernat's This place is pure Dallas; you'll likely bump into a sports star or celeb and prices reflect that prime-time experience (steaks start at about $35 a la carte). But if you're looking for a thick steak that cuts like buttah, you'll find several here. Try the Wet Aged New York strip, or, if you really want to give your expense account a workout, order the Kobe/Angus filet ($68.50). You'll face the fallout when you get back to work. 4217 Oak Lawn Ave., Dallas. 214-219-2201. www.albiernats.com.

Bailey's Prime Plus: Plush, leather booths, an in-house wine cellar and a beautiful water features are just a few of the beautiful things you'll find at Bailey's new location in Fort Worth's West 7th entertainment district. The dry-aged bone-in ribeye is a thing of beauty as well. This is deluxe steakhouse you don't want to miss. 2901 Crockett Street, Fort Worth. (817) 870-1100. www.baileysprimeplus.com.

Cattleman’s Fort Worth Steakhouse: If you want a thick and juicy steak in the quintessential cowboy atmosphere, Cattleman’s in the Fort Worth Stockyards is the place. And the ribeye is eye-rollingly good. 2458 North Main Street, Fort Worth; 817-624-3945. www.cattlemenssteakhouse.com
