DVD releases: 'Animal Kingdom,' 'Buried' and more

DVD Animal Kingdom: Although the title of first-time features director David Michôd's nervy Australian crime thriller may be a little too obvious -- the only animals here are of the physically two-legged and metaphorically two-faced variety -- it nevertheless heralds the arrival of a new director worth watching. As the Coen brothers did with their 1984 debut, Blood Simple, Michôd has taken basic film ingredients and turned them into something gripping, unnerving and ultimately surprising. Speaking of surprises, veteran actress Jacki Weaver -- not well-known in the U.S. -- may get a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role as the chilling mother figure of a family of hoods. On DVD and Blu-ray.

Also new: Jack Goes Boating ; Buried; Takers; Stone; Virginity Hit; Sins of My Father; Paper Man; Lebanon; Justified: The Complete First Season; Dark Skies: The Declassified Complete Series; Dallas: The Complete 14th Season
