Catherine Ruehle is becoming an old hand at this Food Network Cake Challenge business: in 2010 alone, the Fort Worth pastry chef filmed four - count 'em, four! - of the grueling culinary competition episodes.
Obviously, Food Network loves this woman or she wouldn't keep getting invitations, right? Her debut, on the paranormal cake episode, aired last summer. Towering wedding cakes aired in November. Now, her competition on the Stand Up Comedy Cakes episode will premiere at 7 p.m. January 23. (It repeats at 2 a.m. Jan. 24 and 7 p.m. Jan. 25.)
Will the third time be her charm? Is this the one she wins? Maybe, if her cake was the funniest: She and three other cake designers had to race against the clock to build a cake that actually told jokes, and they had to deliver their finished cakes to present at a live show in a comedy club. If Chef Ruehle wins, she takes home $10,000.
In any case, she'll also be appearing in still another Cake Challenge, Extreme Dinosaur Cakes, later this year. Whether still battling for the crown or as a defending champ, she knows she'll have her hometown crowd rooting for her. (The dinosaur episode air date has yet to be announced.)
Ruehle will make an extreme cake for clients by appointment at her Fort Worth bakery. Call to see if she's in town or filming another TV episode.
