Last-minute tamales to go!

Posted 4:40pm on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010

Your holiday madness gets a little easier when some of the better food stops around town can supply you with great tamales for holiday celebrations. Take a minute to place an order, then have breakfast or lunch when you stop in to pick up your batch.

Marquez Bakery: The migas can't be beat, especially when topped with the breakfast salsa. But don't overlook the pork tamales, $7.55 per dozen, at this tortilla factory near Cowboys Stadium. Orders filled through December 24, 1730 E. Division St., Arlington; 817- 265-8858.

Cardona's: A good stop for hearty Tex-Mex meals, this tortilla factory near Meacham Field in north Fort Worth has pork tamales for $7.95 per dozen. Call ahead and pick up before 2 p.m. Dec. 24. 850 Meacham Blvd., Fort Worth, 817-625-6477.

Central Market: During your shopping frenzy, slow down for soup in the store's cafe and remember to grab some tamales before you leave. If you want to pick up tamales and take straight to a party, you'll need to order ASAP. Orders can be picked up now through 5 p.m. Dec. 24. Tamales come in three varieties, chicken-tomatillo, pork-and-beef, and bean-and cheddar and are $8.99 per package of eight. Find them cold in the deli case, too. 425 E. Southlake Blvd., Southlake, 817-310-5600; and 4651 West Freeway at Hulen Street, Fort Worth, 817-989-4700.

Esperanza’s: We love breakfast and lunch (tortilla soup, oh my) at Joe T's Bakery almost as much as we love the tamales, sold at both locations. The ample selection includes pork, beef, chicken, bean, cheese-and-jalapeno or coconut-raisin; $8.95-$12.95 per dozen. Order 48 hours in advance. 2122 North Main Street, Fort Worth, 817-626-5770; or 1601 Park Place Avenue, Fort Worth, 817-923-1961. www.joets.com

Whole Foods Market: There's not a healthier salad bar in town, which is just the ticket during the holiday rush. Look in the warm foods area for red chile and sweet corn, red chile and cheese and more. $5.49 per half-dozen. 801 E. Lamar Blvd., Arlington; 817-461-9362.
