NBC-5 helps catch a robber

Posted 3:56pm on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010

I'm usually skeptical of local-TV "live shots," in which a reporter stands "live" in front of a closed building where something happened hours ago or near a freeway spot where a wreck happened but has been cleaned up. But NBC-5's Omar Villafranca makes a case for the live shot with a report in which he and photojournalist Larry Herrera inadvertently witness -- and intentionally film -- an ATM robbery taking place. This led to the arrest of the robber. (Full disclosure: I learned of this from Villafranca's Twitter feed.) Villfranca tells the story here.
