For Hot Tub's Back Porch Grotto, will location matter?

Posted 4:33pm on Wednesday, Dec. 08, 2010

How's this for a mouthful: Hot Tub's Back Porch Grotto. That's the name of a new restaurant that was supposed to open tonight in southwest Fort Worth. A bit south of TCU, near the original Charley's Hamburgers, HBPG is now slated to make its debut tomorrow evening at 4413 Trail Lake Drive in Fort Worth.

First, the location is a teensy bit tricky: It's just off Granbury Road, facing the duck pond in a residential area. Traditionally, restaurants do better in high-traffic retail stretches. And then there's the name. It sounds like a bar, right? And everyone keeps asking, "Is there a hot tub there?"

But when we popped in on Monday afternoon to see what was happening, we found a waitstaff in training in a space that looks like a pleasant casual restaurant. There's a patio to one side, next to a parking lot that will be full instantly, if a lot of business comes in at once.

The menu is interesting, however. We like the sound of lobster mac and cheese with bacon, as well as grilled redfish and a side of green chile grits. Our own Bud Kennedy says there's much anticipation for the pan-fried (sort like chicken-fried) steak and for the catfish from owner Danny McGuire's Twin Pines in Burleson. Check out the menu here.

Miss Foody Two-Shoes will have a dinner report next week.
