Costumed Critical Mass
This bicycle group meets regularly for night rides -- and so, of course, there's a Halloween-themed one happening this weekend. Put on your best costume, but remember not to make it too complicated, because you'll have to pedal and not get your outfit stuck in the gears or wheels. (Oh, and white is probably best, since it is nighttime after all and you don't want to end up squished like a piece of old Halloween candy.)
When: 7-9 p.m. Friday
Where: Burnett Park, bordered by West Seventh, Tenth, Cherry and Lamar streets in downtown Fort Worth
Cost: Free
Info: Easiest to find on Facebook, the group is called FortWorth CriticalMass

Oak Lawn Halloween 2010
It's still the biggest Halloween party in North Texas, with several blocks of Cedar Springs blocked off so that everyone can parade their costumes. And trust us, it doesn't get any more creative than what you'll find here. Just be warned: It gets crazy-busy, and getting through the crowd -- not to mention dodging the inevitable giant headdresses and wigs that appear every year -- is a nightmare.
When: 7 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday
Where: The 3900 block of Cedar Springs Road, between Oak Lawn Avenue and Fitzhugh Avenue, Dallas
Cost: Free to go, bars will be charging cover

'The Beyond' This 1981 horror classic, about hellish happenings under a New Orleans hotel, is an underappreciated flick. Italian filmmaker Lucio Fulci knows how to gore it up, that's for sure. 'The Night of the Hunter' Some folks think the idea of musicals themselves are scary. And then there are the musicals that actually send a tingle, or four, up the spine. That's what to expect from the regional premiere of this musical, based on the Davis Burr Southern Gothic novel, which was later turned into an acclaimed and groundbreaking movie, directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters. In Lyric Stage style, it will be performed with a 28-piece orchestra.
When: Friday through Nov. 7
Where: Carpenter Performance Hall at Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving
Cost: $25-$50
Info: www.lyricstage.org
VooDooWeen "VooDooWeen" is what's happening at downtown Fort Worth bar 8.0. There'll not only be a costume contest, but also a "Killer Dance Routine Contest." Gee, we hate that they used the word "routine," because now we're expecting groups in sparkly outfits twirling batons. And that's downright terrifying.
When: 8 p.m. Saturday
Where: 111. E. Third St., Fort Worth
Cost: $5 cover
Info: www.eightobar.com
Sarah McLachlan The Canadian songstress comes to town on the day after Halloween, so think of it as a good way to come down from all the madness. Since several legs of her reunited Lilith Fair were canceled this summer, including the Dallas one, it might be your only chance to catch her for a good while.
When: 8 p.m. Monday
Where: Verizon Theatre, Grand Prairie
Cost: $24.75-$59.75
Info: www.ticketmaster.com
Drumline LIVE Again, this event might be post-Halloween, but it offers up some things that go bump (and bang) in the night. It's a theatrical staging with high school- and college-style drum lines, as inspired by the movie Drumline. Which was inspired by -- what else? -- real drum lines. The music covers R&B, classic Motown and hip-hop, with lotsa brass and percussion in the mix.
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Where: Bass Performance Hall, Fort Worth
Cost: $22-$49.50
