Your VIP pass to DFWs nightlife, sports & party scene.
The Rangers are playing in Arlington this weekend, but they're not giving those tickets away. So most of us devoted fans -- the long-suffering faithful and the "Which one's Cliff Lee?" newcomers -- will be watching the American League Championship Series on TV.
But why watch alone when you could be at a sports bar, cheering with a crowd of fans and sloshing beer each time the Yankees strike out?
We've called around, and we can pretty much guarantee that if there's a TV at a bar in the Metroplex, it'll be tuned to the Rangers game. But if you're looking for something beyond your neighborhood beer joint, we've checked in with some of the newest sports bars -- and the bars that are doing something special to make Rangers fans feel welcome. (If you're a Yankees fan, we can't help you. Sorry.)
Games 1 and 2 start at 7:07 tonight and 3:07 p.m. Saturday. Just in time to get your drink on.
All Star Sports Bar and Grill
6103 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth
817-570-9536
All Star opened last spring in the old Cafe Aspen building in west Fort Worth. There's still a patio and a dining room, but the front section is now filled with pool tables and giant TVs. You can catch the games on one of 25 flat-screens, and there will be shot specials and cheap buckets of domestic beer.
Wild Rooster Bar
3204 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth
817-332-9453
This place opened in June on Camp Bowie, just a block west of all that new West Seventh action. The Rangers games will be on the six flat-screen TVs and big projector screen, and happy-hour specials will be 2-9 p.m. today and Saturday.
Magnolia Motor Lounge
3005 Morton St., Fort Worth
817-332-3344
This stylish new beer-and-burger joint opened in an old transmission shop in the Cultural District less than a month ago. This weekend, all seven flat-screens and the 42-inch screen over the bar will be tuned to the Rangers. Expect happy-hour specials.
Jack's Porch
1239 Main St., Southlake
817-251-6776
For the last Rangers game, it was standing-room-only at this Southlake sports grill, which opened last year in Town Square. But don't worry: There will be happy-hour specials during the game, and 10 high-definition TVs will give you a good view of the ballpark action.
The Pour House
2725 W Seventh St., Fort Worth
817-335-2575
The Pour House, once a downtown institution, reopened almost a year ago in the heart of the West Seventh development. The huge new location won DFW.com's Best Damn Sports Bar contest last spring, and this weekend, most of the 33 plasma and big-screen TVs will be tuned to the ALCS. Fear not, hungry fans: There will be beer bucket and wing specials.
Sherlock's Pub
254 Lincoln Square, Arlington
817-226-2300
No, Sherlock's isn't new, but consider it anyway: You'll be so close to the ballpark that you can join the traffic jam after the game. And it's going to be a party: There will be barbecue out front, plus drink specials and $2 corny dogs and hot dogs during the game. And hey -- if you actually have tickets to this Rangers-Yankees showdown, you can park at Sherlock's and take a free shuttle bus.
Whiskey & Rye
1300 Houston Street (inside the Omni Hotel), Fort Worth
817-535-6664
Whiskey & Rye, the comfy yet swanky sports-watching spot in the Omni Hotel in downtown Fort Worth, has special game day menus planned for this weekend. On Friday, Oct. 15, anybody wearing purple for TCU or red for the Rangers will receive 25 percent off food. On Saturday, Oct. 16, W&R's special game day menu includes:
A special claw cocktail and Rahr Blonde seasonal specials; Clutch Hit Chorizo Queso Fundido; The Bullpen Buffaloed Potato Skins; Shoot the Gap Sliders; 4th Down Dog (Southwestern B.L.T. Dog).
