'Vernon Fisher: K-Mart Conceptualism'
Fort Worth native Vernon Fisher is one of the few Cowtown artists whose work has warranted a major exhibition in the Modern Art Museum. Check out his sculptures, paintings and installations in this retrospective, going back to his work from the 1970s.

Monty Python Madness And now for something completely different, or, if you've been attending this event since Grapevine's British Emporium has been doing it, maybe not so much. The annual celebration of our favorite British comedy imports features a bangers and mash contest, a "Silly Walk," costume contests, a screening of the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail , and this year, an appearance by Monty Python collaborator Carol Cleveland.

Info: www.british-emporium.com Music+Motion Festival This forthcoming festival, being planned for 2011, is reportedly going to be Fort Worth's answer to SXSW. Yeah, we're thinking it is gonna take years before reaching that scale. Still, it should be something worth thinking about. At this launch event, there will be a silent auction, featuring signed items from the Boxmasters, the group that features Billy Bob Thornton. Here's hoping the item that he signed has been sterilized.

State Fair of Texas
There is plenty of stuff to do at the State Fair, including seeing the latest car models and riding death-defying midway rides; but it seems like the biggest story is always about the new fried foods that will be available for your taste buds. This year, the Big Tex Choice Award winners are Texas Fried Frito Pie and Fried Beer. Next year, fried Gas-X?

'The Mighty Uke'
The ukulele is a favorite unsung instrument, and in this new documentary, the tiny plunker is given the spotlight. It looks at the instrument as played by various cultures and ages throughout the world. Go 'head and cue the music, in your head. Once there, you know you can't get it out.

'Dexter' Season 4 Thinking we didn't really want to bother with a show about a serial killer with a heart of gold, it took us a while to surrender to Dexter. But once we started, we fell victim to the show's intense grip. And now we ride along every Sunday with Dexter and his dark passenger. This season finds Dexter (Michael C. Hall) trying to pick up the pieces after his wife, Rita (Julie Benz), was murdered by Dexter's Season 4 nemesis, the Trinity killer (a deliriously mercurial John Lithgow, who won an Emmy for the role).

'Shrek the Musical' And the Disneyfication of Broadway continues. Or, in this case, the DreamWorks-ification. The popular green ogre and his family and friends have been given the stage-musical treatment, and the show is playing as the State Fair musical in Dallas. Former local actor Brian Gonzales plays Shrek's father and various other roles.

Greek Food Festival of Dallas
Break out your bouzouki for the 54th annual Greek Food Festival of Dallas. This isn't just a place to gobble up some baklava and shout "Opa!," although you certainly can do those things. This fest features authentic dishes such as dolmas and spanakopita, plus traditional Greek music and dancing. Save a dance for our very own Greek goddess, Heather Svokos.
