Frankie's Sports Bar coming to Fort Worth

Posted 4:38pm on Friday, Sep. 10, 2010

Frankie's Sports Bar in Uptown is one of my favorite places to go to watch sports. It has everything anyone could want from tons of TVs to couches, cocktail tables, pool tables, a vibrant patio and good food. With its location on the corner of McKinney and Hall near Primo's and Breadwinners, it always seems to have the perfect blend of the beautiful Uptown crowd and a laid back atmosphere. Rarely does a visit to this "sports fan's niravna" go by without one of us in the group pointing out how great it would be to have a Frankie's in Fort Worth.

Dreams do come true. Frankie's will open a third location -- joining Uptown and Lewisville -- on the ground level of The Carnegie at Third and Lamar across from the Central Library in Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. The bar and restaurant will feature a 15-foot wall consisting of 30 HD screens showing for sports viewing. At 8,000 square feet, it will be the largest of the Frankie's locations. Look for it to open between mid-December and early January in plenty of time for Super Bowl XLV.

Other than my own personal wishes, why is Frankie's coming to Cowtown? "Sundance Square is such a great area and we can’t wait to bring our concept to Fort Worth,” said owner Bill Katz. “We are very excited that ESPN will be broadcasting live from Sundance Square leading up to and during the Super Bowl. We have a great opportunity to build a loyal fan base for Frankie’s during this time."

It sounds like I am not the only one that is thrilled at this news. “We know from listening to our patrons they want a great location in Sundance Square to watch sports with everything from college football and college basketball to the World Series,” said Johnny Campbell, president and CEO of Sundance Square. “With Super Bowl XLV coming to North Texas in February 2011, Frankie’s will be well positioned to offer guests the perfect venue to watch all the action in a great environment."

In 2008, USA Today named Frankie's in Uptown as one of the "Top 10 Places to Watch the Super Bowl." It was in this article that Frankie's earned it's nickname of the "nirvana for sports fans."
