Laugh With a Legend Gala:
Vicki Lawrence & Mama: A Two-Woman Show
Vicki Lawrence got her start in the 1960s on The Carol Burnett Show, but she's carved out a long-running comedy career of her own, based on the show's Mama character. Saturday, Lawrence and her comic doppelgänger come to town for some live laughs.
8:45 p.m. Saturday, at Casa Mañana, 3101 W. Lancaster Blvd., Fort Worth. Tickets, which cover the show, post-performance party, open bar, dancing and silent auction, start at $75. 817-321-5005; www.casamanana.org
Circus Salome
Oscar Wilde's Salome gets a blasphemous update when Herod, a circus ringmaster, goes after his stepdaughter, a spoiled aerialist. Ominous and erotic, the "gluttonous excess and sexual desire" described on the theater's website mean this one's not for the kids.
8:15 p.m. Fridays-Sundays, Sept. 3-Sept. 26, at the Hip Pocket Theatre, 1950 Silver Creek Road, Fort Worth. $2.50-$15. 817-246-9775; www.hippocket.org
Brave Combo
In a perfect world, we'd be able to enjoy Grammy-winning musicians in our own back yard, free of charge. Next week there's a perfect opportunity to do just that when Brave Combo kicks off the Levitt Pavilion season in Arlington. They call it a "mosh-pit polka band" on the Levitt website, but the Denton musicians do more than polkas during their fun-for-all-ages shows. And if you haven't yet visited the still-newish pavilion, this is a great opportunity to get in the spirit for Labor Day weekend. Note: It's OK to bring adult beverages as long as they are not in glass containers. You might want a blanket for seating, too. Be prepared to dance.
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Levitt Pavilion, Founders Plaza, 100 W. Abram St., Arlington. Free .
