The world gave us Iron Chef ... so why not “Iron Mash”? On Sunday, the 9-year-old homebrew competition, sponsored by the Cap and Hare Homebrew Club, mashed away in the parking lot of Fort Worth’s Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. It’s worth noting that Sunday was also one of the hottest days of our skull-melting summer. (Be sure to check out photographer Jeff Wood's cool gallery of pics from the event.)
Twenty four Iron Mash teams were required to develop recipes and brew beers based on ingredients revealed only on the day of competition. Brewers must use at least one of the secret ingredients in its entirety, and this year’s choices were: Blue Agave Nectar, Telicherry peppercorns and Cardamom seed. Iron Mash hopefuls will have to wait until October for the results; that’s when judging and the awards ceremony will take place.
