Grady Spears to cook for Houston Texan fans

Posted 2:42pm on Thursday, Jul. 29, 2010

Lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan Grady Spears, a chef in Fort Worth kitchens since Reata opened atop the Bank One tower in 1996, may be sporting a new tattoo soon - the Houston Texans logo.

The Cowboy in the Kitchen, cookbook author and owner of Grady's Restaurant on Forest Park Boulevard in Fort Worth, has just inked a deal that will find him splitting his time with Houston business partners. Spears has just signed on with Reliant Park and Aramark Sports & Entertainment to bring his food brand to events down yonder.

Spears will "add excitement and a real Texas flair to Houston Texans games, RodeoHouston and many other major event menus and infuse fresh new ideas into our local menu offerings," says Joe Glynn, Regional Director for Aramark in a press release. He'll spend time creating signature menu items with Aramark Executive Chef Mark Cornish for the Houston Texans specialty suites and other key areas at Reliant Stadium and for the massive Houston Rodeo venues at Reliant.

Among personal appearances he'll be making at football games comes one with a certain built-in challenge: Spears has to do face-time at the home game the Houston Texans host on Sept. 26 against the Dallas Cowboys, the team for which Spears has rooted all his life.

"No way I could pass up a deal this good," Spears says. "They asked about my loyalty to the Cowboys and I said, 'Hey, if y'all want me to get a Texans tattoo, I'll have it before I come down and see y'all again."

Spears will continue to run Grady's Restaurant in Fort Worth and work on his new TV show, The Cowboy's Kitchen, airing on RFD, a network on Dish and Directv.
