Eats Beat: Mijo's finally adding a second store

Posted 9:03am on Friday, Jul. 02, 2010

Before Fuzzy's, there was Mijo's.

Mijo's Fresh Mexican Food in Pantego was the Arlington area's original stop for fish tacos and fresh salsas.

Now, Mijo's is finally adding a second location. A new Mijo's will open later this year in south Arlington at 5809 Interstate 20 W.

Mijo's specializes in seafood items such as the new grilled salmon tacos on wheat tortillas with a garlic-habanero sauce ($8.25).

The fish tacos are grouper, not whitefish, and they're served with chipotle sauce and Mijo's salsa bar of fresh green and red sauces.

Mijo's also offers a usual Tex-Mex menu of chiles rellenos, fajitas and enchiladas, including barbacoa enchiladas with epazote sauce ($7.29). It's also a busy stop for breakfast, particularly weekends.

Mijo's original location is 2304 W. Park Row Drive, Pantego, near Bowen Road. It's usually open daily at 7:30 a.m. serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

J.R.'s Steakhouse has a new cousin: J.R.'s Grill, opening this summer two blocks north on Texas 121 in Colleyville.

J.R.'s Grill is the latest from chef Todd Phillips, who put the prime steakhouse on the map with Southwestern spices and flavors.

His casual grill menu will offer prime-beef burgers ground fresh, along with smoked prime-rib sandwiches, roast chicken and other dishes in a more relaxed setting.

"We have a lot of burgers around here but we want to do something simple that's better," said Phillips, a success along with owner Johnny Ragland in a neighborhood with mostly chain restaurants.

He'll keep the slider burgers from J.R.'s Steakhouse. Watch for J.R.'s Grill at 5220 Texas 121; www.jrsteaks.com.
