Ghostbar celebrates 'Bunnies and Honeys'

Posted 11:52am on Wednesday, Jun. 16, 2010

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Playboy Club in Chicago. To celebrate this golden occasion, the original men's magazine threw 50 parties in 50 international cities this past Friday, June 11. DFW was chosen to host one of the 50 global parties at the Ghostbar atop the W Hotel in Dallas.

We've done Ghostbar before, since it's been one of the hottest spots in Dallas since it opened back in the summer of 2006. There have been tons of occasions where I've seen the lobby of the W overflowing with people as they anticipate entry. I've seen more celebs here than anywhere else. From Justin Timberlake to LeBron James to Jessica Simpson and the Black Eyed Peas to my idol Bill Simmons and more than a few Dallas Cowboys, when Ghostbar is on its game, it is a people-watching mecca, and nothing in DFW can really compare.

On this evening, Ghostbar opened its doors and felt like a Playboy Club. All of the beautiful girls that work at Ghost were dressed as Playboy bunnies, complete with the rabbit ears and tail to complement the black outfits. The flatscreens that you see when you exit the elevator 33 floors above Dallas were played out a historical look at the years through the pages of Playboy magazine. And yes, they were tastefully edited. We had a really good time at our table with its lime green booths that gave us a panoramic view of the Dallas sklyline in the distance and an even better view of some of Dallas' MOST gorgeous girls. When the lingerie-clad go-go dancers arrived on the scene around midnight, the party cranked up to a whole new level.

The Playboy Club was the most successful nightclub chain in history. In its heyday, Time magazine called the Playboy key "a status symbol equivalent to a Phi Beta Kappa key from Yale." The clubs were last seen in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles in 1986 until the highly successful opening of the Playboy Club at the Palms Resort & Casino in Las Vegas in October 2006. As Ghostbar is one of the most successful nightclubs in recent Dallas memory, it was the ideal location for this event.
