The reopening of Burnett Park in downtown Fort Worth will be celebrated this week with free lunchtime concerts and a children's play day. Activities are planned from morning to night beginning Tuesday.
All activities are free, including morning fitness classes. Organizers want to showcase new user-friendly features at the park, which is known for its crisscrossing granite walkways and tall Briefcase Man sculpture.
A $1 million redesign unveiled last week includes the removal of perimeter shrubs and the addition of a "great lawn," two children's play structures and new tables and chairs. Funding for the redesign came primarily from the Burnett Foundation.
This week's activities "shows how flexible the park now is," said Megan Henderson of Downtown Fort Worth Inc., which manages the park. For more information, visit www.dfwi.org or call 817-870-1692.
