I guess it's OK for Caro's Mexican Food to change every 56 years.
The little restaurant on the Bluebonnet Circle near TCU has a fresh new look to go with its distinctive "puffy tacos."
Caro's now serves queso, charro beans, tres leches cake and a new menu of $9 lunch specials that include nachos and a soft drink.
Start with the chicken puffy tacos. Ask for Caro's special green sauce. If you want, substitute the charro beans, and it's a lighter lunch than an enchilada plate.
Caro's still has its old favorites: pork chops, spaghetti and migas or huevos.
It's open daily for lunch and dinner; 3505 Bluebonnet Circle, 817-924-9977, carosmex.com.
Speaking of Bluebonnet, change is coming to Blue Bonnet Bakery.
After 76 years, the bakery and cafe will move eight blocks west on Camp Bowie Boulevard.
The Hart family bought an old church next door to The Original Mexican Restaurant.
That'll give the Blue Bonnet room for a larger bakery and a much larger lunchroom and sandwich shop.
Until the move, try the Blue Bonnet for lunch weekdays and Saturdays at 3905 Camp Bowie Blvd., 817-731-4233, bluebonnetbakery.com.
If you're still booking Mother's Day lunch -- or any weekend lunch -- remember the bistro at LightCatcher Winery.
LightCatcher is a winery and tasting room six miles west of Loop 820 near Lakeside. It also has a dining room and a huge patio.
The Mother's Day buffet includes prime rib, leg of lamb, short ribs, crab cakes and a complete salad and dessert bar.
It's $39 or $19 for kids; 6925 Confederate Park Road, 817-237-2626, www.lightcatcher.com.
Buffalo Bros. Pizza Wings & Subs made its name as a New York-style sports bar and pizza cafe.
But it has become known for its ... green chicken enchiladas?
The enchilada special will extend all of next week for Cinco de Mayo. Besides the platter, Buffalo Bros. will serve a chicken enchilada pizza and Buffalo chicken nachos.
Buffalo Bros. is open daily for lunch and dinner; 3015 S. University Drive, 817-386-9601, www.buffalobrostx.com.
The Fort Worth Zoo is also serving a Mother's Day buffet in its art gallery.
Brunch includes an omelet station and salads, a visit with the animals, an "adoption" and a family caricature.
The price is $65 or $25 for children. Book by Monday at 817-759-7332.
Mayfest is back in Fort Worth.
That means Fletcher's State Fair Corny Dogs. Look for stands at both the north and south gateways to Trinity Park.
