Some things from the '90s shouldn't come back.
The clothes. Y2K. Jennifer Aniston hair.
But a good restaurant is an exception.
After 10 years, Rivera's has reopened as the new Rivera's Mexican Grill & Market near Ridgmar mall.
The original Cafe Rivera's opened nearly 20 years ago on White Settlement Road. It was known for chiles relleno, fried ice cream and good breakfasts.
The new Rivera's serves all that plus steaks and barbecue in a big dining room that fills the old Ridgmar Farmers Market.
The Parker County farmers' peaches and fresh vegetables haven't gone away. The market is still at the south door.
But the rest of the old market is now a breezy restaurant, patio and bar, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner every day with mariachis on Saturday nights.
Richard Rivera promises a full bar and patio soon with music. It's BYOB for now.
Look for it at 900 Alta Mere Drive (Texas 183) by Ridgmar mall. 817-367-0109; rjriveracatering.com.
Ultimate Cupcake, the Parker County bakery that has gone crazy over American Idol contestant Casey James, will welcome KDAF/Channel 33 meteorologist Rebecca Miller Saturday afternoon..
Ultimate Cupcake bakes six flavors of gourmet cupcakes. They're ready for delivery across North Texas or packed for shipping worldwide.
Miller will visit Saturday at 2 p.m. The shop is near Cowboys Barbeque in Hudson Oaks Towne Center, 3316 Fort Worth Highway, Hudson Oaks. 817-596-9090; www.ultimatecupcake.com.
We're still waiting for the opening of Brownstone, the new local-fresh restaurant by Top Chef contestant Casey Thompson.
But we can give you a peek at the decor, thanks to Dallas designer Hatsumi Kuzuu, who also designed Tei An in Dallas One Arts Plaza.
Brownstone will look like its name, she said: warm brick, with lots of leather and wood. She said she is trying for a "really cozy, homey feel."
It'll open in April, Kuzuu said. Watch the corner of Currie and Crockett streets.
Nearby on Crockett Street, Patrizio and the Bailey's Prime Plus steakhouse are promoting that they will open in the next month.
Dallas' Neighborhood Services, maybe the best of the modern-Southern-cooking restaurants, will add two new locations -- sadly, both in Dallas.
A smaller Neighborhood Services Tavern has opened at 2405 N. Henderson Ave., with another full-size restaurant coming at Preston Road and Royal Lane.
And the south side of Fort Worth has a new barbecue cafe.
City Pig BBQ is open for lunch and dinner Mondays through Saturdays at 2001 Eighth Ave. The service has suffered under grand-opening pressure, but try Allan Davis' homemade sausage and pintos; 817-484-6813.
