The Cliburn is crowing about one of the musical high-water marks of its season.
And it's because Yo-Yo Ma, perhaps the world's greatest cellist and most recognizable classical player, is on the bill.
Ma, whose résumé includes playing for five sitting presidents (including for John F. Kennedy, when Ma was a mere tike of 7), will be joined by highly regarded British pianist Kathryn Stott.
When the two are collaborating, some have said they form "pure musical telepathy."
For this Cliburn at the Bass performance, Ma and Stott are planning an evening with compositions by, among others, Schubert and Shostakovich, plus a sensuous tango by Piazzolla.
