Eating-for-charity events are becoming so numerous that you have to ask yourself: Why do I want to go to another grazer?
Well, here are here are five reasons you should check out Sunday’s Cookin’ for Kids event, the fundraiser for the non-profit theater group called Kids Who Care. It starts at 5 p.m. at River Ranch in the Fort Worth Stockyards at 500 N.E. 23rd Street:
1. You like the food that comes from chefs like Asdren Albanese at Ruffino’s; Juan Rodriguez at Reata; Denise Shavandy at Central Market in Southlake; Hui Chuan at Hui Chuan; and Sean Merchant at the Covey – five of the 12 chefs who will be in the cooking competition on Sunday.
2. Seeing these chefs paired to cook with non-food folks like TCU football coach Gary Patterson and Fort Worth City Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks sounds like a hoot.
3. Watching these folks have their food judged by other food people, such as Lambert’s owner and chef Lou Lambert and Fort Worth Foodie editor Crystal Willars might be interesting.
4. It’s good to help a theater school and touring company that focuses on artistic integrity for young performers and serves kids of all economic and cultural backgrounds.
5. You can eat like a champ, too. Serving stations will be hosted by places such as El Paseo, the Four Seasons in Las Colinas, Hoffbrau, Hui Chuan, Latte Da Dairy, Pappadeaux, Ruffino’s, Winslow’s, the Pour House and the Ginger Man.
Find someone to buy your ticket, by the way. It’s $100 per person - but you won’t find all this under one roof, otherwise. At least until the next big food event. Just be sure to arrive early, eat all the fabulous goodies, watch the cooking hijinks – then rush over to the free DFW.com Oscars party at the Modern Art Museum.
