Oscar night is fast approaching: Have you settled on an outfit yet? Made your picks online? Well, what the heck are you waiting for?
First things first, if you want to enter our Oscar Picks contest, go to dfw.com/oscars2010 and enter for a chance to win a 40" flat-screen TV, provided by Marvin Electronics. Deadline to enter is 6 p.m. March 7.
But why wait? And besides, we expect to see you Sunday, March 7, at DFW.com’s second annual Oscar Watching Party at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. And, hold onto your hat, you'll have another chance to win a brand-new flat-screen there. (Thank you, thank you, Marvin's.)
Here are the details on the party and our Oscar picks contest online.
The party: Along with our buddies and co-hosts at the Modern and the Lone Star Film Society, DFW.com will roll out the red carpet at the Modern on March 7. You’ll be able to eat, drink and enter to win fabulous prizes, including a 40-inch Sharp Aquos flat-screen TV, provided by the fine folks at Marvin Electronics.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and DFW.com will be snapping photos of the arrivals and interviewing the famous and nonfamous alike. The Oscar telecast preshow kicks off at 7 p.m., and the ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. We’ll be giving away prizes all night and during each commercial break. Attendance is absolutely free, and no tickets are necessary, although if you want to reserve a spot in the auditorium, you can e-mail Tina Gorski at tgorski@themodern.org.
The costume contest: This year, we’re also excited to be offering a special prize to the best Oscar-inspired costume of the year. Last year, we had a Björk and a Kung Fu Panda. This year we’re encouraging partygoers to ramp things up even more. So, pull on that platinum wig and some high heels and grab a football to Blind Side us. Or blow us away with your bomb-defusing suit. Heck, if you want to get drunk, gain 40 pounds and don a cowboy hat, you might just win over the celebrity judges’ crazy hearts.
Become an Avatar: Also at the party, artist Ty Walls will turn you into an Avatar. So get there early if you wanna be a hunky Avatar, just like our critic Christopher Kelly.
It's gonna be a blast. See ya on the red carpet!
