NOT THE USUAL SUSPECT WHEN IT COMES TO BARS
The Usual, the new bar on Magnolia just south of downtown near the Medical District, can be a little tough to spot unless you know exactly where it is. But sometimes that doesn't even matter -- my buddy Alex drove right past it ... twice. From the outside, it looked pretty bland. I must admit, I was not impressed by the signage and was ready to venture over to the West 7th corridor.
Then we walked inside.
It was the total opposite of what I expected. The decor was very upscale yet very cozy, with several secluded booths (great for a date night!), and plenty of tables in the center of the room -- ideal for a big gang of friends. Their specialty is exotic mixed drinks, but they do have an extensive list of beers on tap. I was partial to the "Bartender's Root Beer." Another thing worth mentioning: the bar is non-smoking, with a deck for people to go outside and light up.
The slogan printed on our tab was: "Prohibition-era and classic-style drinks." We didn't exactly feel like we were in a speakeasy, but this place really definitely works as a cool alternative to the others bar/lounges in Fort Worth.
