Your VIP pass to DFW’s nightlife, sports & party scene.
A year from now, the whole world will turn its attention to Dallas-Fort Worth, when Cowboys Stadium in Arlington plays host to Super Bowl XLV.
But that's next year.
This year's big game will be in Miami and features the New Orleans Saints doing battle with the Indianapolis Colts. Yes, we know. Lame-o. The Cowboys deserve to be there. But with The Who performing during the half-time show, it should still make for an entertaining spectacle. The only question: Where should you enjoy the biggest sporting event of the year?
If you choose not to go the house party route, it's a 100 % "Men's Wearhouse" guarantee that every bar and grill in town will be showing the game. But as my regular readers are well aware, not all bar and grills are created equal. Here are my top five picks:
1) The Texas Station at The Gaylord
The sports lounge inside the huge Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center is always in the discussion for watching any game simply because of the TV: a 30-foot tall, 52-foot wide behemoth with a crystal clear picture. One thing to know, though: This place will definetely be crowded. If you want to watch the game in one of the leather recliners up front, you better plan on getting there really early. If you don't mind the standing-room only thing, though, this should be your first and only option to watch the Super Bowl.
2) Bone Daddy's House of Smoke, Grapevine
Some of the most beautiful girls in all of North Texas are guaranteed to be on hand, simply because they work at the Grapevine location. In honor of the big game, Bone Daddy's will be offering 50 cent whole wings (not just the drums or flappers); $4 chopped beef sandwiches; and $2 pint drafts. Probably the thing that has us leaning toward Bone Daddy's is that the girls will all be wearing football-themed clothing. Think cheerleader outfits, referee shirts, and football jerseys.
3) Hooters
Super Bowl Sunday is traditionally the largest sales day of the year for Hooters -- and for good reason. With Hooters, you know exactly what you are going to get: wings; beer; and more wings I'm partial to the Fort Worth location, off Southwest Blvd., but the Lewisville location is always fun. And, of course, the West End location downtown Dallas is known as "The World's Largest Hooters." For the sixth straight year, the world famous "breastaurant" is giving away a TV at every location. They will also donate all of their stores' sales during the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl to Haiti relief through Stop Hunger Now. So you can look at pretty girls, watch the game and help save the world at the same time.
4) Cool River Cafe, Las Colinas
This upscale steak restaurant/bar in Las Colinas is another spot with a really big TV and really good food. This would be a good place to take a date to watch the game. Your lady will be impressed with the high class vibe, while you will get to watch the game on one of the best TVs around. If you wanna go with a group of guys, there is a cigar lounge in the back and pool tables surrouunded by still more TVs.
Twin Peaks is a fun, laid back restaurant with hot waitresses and there are so many TVs one might think it was designed to as a guy's paradise to watch sports. The food is realy good, especially the "Enhanced Chicken Breasts." The menu includes steaks, burgers, and ribs. They even offer oysters! Twin Peaks has multiple locations throughout the Metroplex, with my personal faves in Lewisville and Addison.
