Wine down at the Cowboys' Stadium tasting room

Posted 9:50am on Friday, Jan. 08, 2010

Going to see the Cowboys-Eagles rematch Saturday night? If you have access to the Silver Suite Level (and, really, who doesn't?), don’t miss the chance to sip a glass or two at Dee Lincoln’s Tasting Room and Bubble Bar, a slick wine bar from the seriously savvy steakhouse maven.

Dee still runs Del Frisco’s in Dallas but she’s brought her smarts to Cowboys Stadium, opening a 1,000-square-foot watering hole for wine fans. You can get one of the sommeliers to help or you can just serve yourself from the temperature-controlled dispensers that pour wine in 2-, 4- or 6-ounce portions.

It’s very clever, and here’s how it works: you buy a credit card for $5 and then load it with $25 or more, then start pouring. You can spend just a few bucks for a small sample or a whole lot for a glass. The night I went, a half-glass of one very lovely cabernet was about $50, but you can find much more reasonably priced pours, too. A champagne cocktail, fashioned by a bartender, was about $15.

In all, there are 48 wines to choose from, reds and whites, too. It can get expensive, but it’s sure fun. And if you’re on the suites level, you’re probably with a high-roller who should be picking up the tab, anyway.
