Cool River, cool place

Posted 11:04am on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009

Just down MacArthur from the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Las Colinas sits the oasis that is Cool River Cafe. This is one of the few places in the Metroplex that has managed to be an "in" place for a long time. The reason? It's just plain cool.

As you walk inside this massive establishment, you can go to the left to the upscale restaurant or to the right to its bar area. Inside the bar area is a spot with pool tables as well as a cigar lounge. When we arrived on Saturday evening to watch the Dallas Cowboys-New Orleans Saints game on their huge TV, the parking lot was nearly overflowing. We considered ourselves fortunate to get a seat at a cocktail table that gave us a great view of the action. The menu has quite the selection from steaks to chipotle chicken and many other choices. I had this gigantic barbecue sandwich that had that "melt in your mouth" taste I crave but rarely find.

With the Cowboys dominating the game, the bar area was quickly at standing room only and the drinks were flowing. Service was top notch.

The game ended with a 24-17 Dallas Cowboys victory over the previously undefeated New Orleans Saints to the delight of the Cool River crowd. They also had live music after the game. We can now add Cool River Cafe to our list of go-to places. COOL RIVER CAFE~ LAS COLINAS

We now have a new, simpler way for you to enter and search for events, at listings.dfw.com. As always, when you submit an event to appear online, it will also be available for us in our print publication. But now you can simply enter your event and provide an email address, rather than creating a separate account and registering. Our new listings tool is still a work in progress, so we appreciate your patience as we fine-tune it. Please contact us at hsvokos@dfw.com if you have any questions or concerns.
