Recently, a friend was telling me a story that involved something about "a nice liquor store."
My response was, "Aren't they all?"
But upon taking my first, breathless tour of one of the new Goody Goody Liquor stores in Fort Worth, I realized that no, all liquor stores are not created equal.
Upon entering the cavernous new store on Camp Bowie a few days ago, I was met by a hospitable man who offered samples of vodka and pinot noir. I mentioned that I have a fondness for a few different zins and syrahs, and he pointed me in the right direction.
My jaw was dropping every time I rounded another corner.
They call this department the World of Wine, and it's truly a universe unto itself. Wines are from every place you can imagine, and prices run from downright cheap (I bought a $6 bottle of tempranillo from Spain, and it wasn't bad at all) to really expensive. There's a whole lot in between.
A second store along SW Loop 820 is even bigger and more wondrous. The owners are rightfully proud of it, too, offering a virtual tour).
You're likely to see me a lot at Goody Goody, stocking up for holiday entertaining and Christmas presents.
The Fort Worth locations are at: 4740 SW Loop 820 and 6393 Camp Bowie Blvd. Each location is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday
