Here’s how to be a do-gooder while grabbing for a big ol’ piece of the living-well pie: Check out a cool online auction sponsored by the Austin chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier, an association of women in the food arts that raises money for culinary scholarships. The Austin Dames are calling their fund-raiser a Food Fight, and its auction goodies would be delightful holiday gifts for anyone who loves to eat, drink and travel.
My favorite auction items are the Thelma & Louise Weekend at the Gage Hotel in the Big Bend town of Marathon, with spa treatments and dinner; a night’s stay and dinner at the Driskill Hotel in Austin; Texas Wine Country Weekend; and a twosome’s getaway weekend in Oregon.
