Several other DFW businesses are keeping the era of the old-school costume shop in the here and now.

Magic Etc.

This Fort Worth shop, which has been around since the mid-’80s, does costume rentals and sells a diverse selection of prepackaged costumes, as well as magic supplies, DJ gear, lighting and sound equipment, and makeup. It shares space with its sister company, Hangman’s House of Horrors, the popular haunted house.

This Arlington institution was founded in the back of Dusty Thompson’s mother’s floral shop in 1976. He and his sister, Louise Nielsen, have made it a go-to source for theaters, school drama departments and corporate clients such as 7-Eleven and Mars Inc.

Queen of Hearts Costume and Magic Shop

One look at this playing-card storefront in historic downtown Plano, and you’ll be charmed. It has been downtown since 1982 and specializes in costume rentals and sales for adults and kids, as well as in magic supplies.
