The force is with Star Wars, Cowboys stadium

Posted 4:55pm on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009

I'm a Star Wars fan by association. My wife can quote chapter and verse on Luke and Han and Boba Fett. But I couldn't resist an invite to get a sneak preview at some of the Star Wars costumes and cool stuff that will be on display Friday night when the big symphonic concert/multimedia event comes to Cowboys Stadium.

It was also a chance to look around the stadium when nobody was there, save for a few Storm Troopers.

Pretty cool stuff, and I'm planning on going back Friday night for the show, which is "a rock 'n' roll meets museum" experience, according to David Iskra, who curates the extravaganza for the Lucas posse. He took some time to show me everything from the Darth Vader suit (most popular, natch!) to the Naboo pilots. Clearly, he raided the Skywalker Ranch for some of the coolest stuff. Chewy's there, and Yoda, but there's also some never-been-seen minor characters that will make geeks squeal with excitement. (It's OK, honey, I understand.)

The displays, which will be available for viewing at 4:30 p.m., are located on the west pavilion of the stadium and will surely be the place to hang out before taking your seat at 7:30 p.m. for the nearly two-hour music and video show, which will be narrated by Mr. C3PO, Anthony Daniels. It spans all six films and integrates clips with John Williams' score, performed by an 86-piece orchestra. Oh, and there is laser lights and local choir will perform as well.

David said people dress up, and everyone from kids and grandparents have been showing up to the first few concerts. Expect an otherworldly experience Friday night in Arlington.
