Opening night at Tru Lounge was lights out, literally

Posted 11:59am on Tuesday, Jul. 07, 2009

Last Friday, I decided to go check out the new Tru Lounge on Houston Street in downtown. It was hosting an NFL party hosted by Trent Shelton of the Washington Redskins. I was told Cornfed from Real Chance of Love was going to be there and I just had to meet her to find out just how crazy she was when the cameras were off.

After driving around and around the block, I figured out that the entrance is on a side street of Houston between the five hundred and six hundred block. I mean...I was looking for the Tru sign. Oh wait! The former occupant, Aqua Lounge, still has their sign above the door.

After a short walk on their red carpet, I was ushered into a lobby where I was wrist-banded (so I could partake) and sent on my way up the stairs. Through the glass doors was a large open space that looked similar to a friend's cozy loft. There were hard wood floors and large windows. The bar is in the center of the room and it acts like a divider. On one side you have the crazy dance floor and on the other you have more of a mellow lounge area where you can actually hear your conversation.

I was promised face time with the athletes, but minutes after they showed up, the power went out in the club and they were moved to a secret location. Meanwhile, I had to fight my way to the bar to get my credit card and tab out. I felt extremely unfabulous. Shouldn't I, the precious party girl, be taken to an undetermined the location until it was safe to come back? Talk about an opening night disaster! I will give them a shout out for having insanely cheap drink prices and cute bar staff.
