Name: Kevin Smith
Nickname: Turbo. “It’s ironical because I don’t move all that fast.”
Bar: Hooligan’s Pub & Grub, 1301 S. Cooper St., Arlington
Hometown: “Arlington, Texas – bored and raised.”
Been bartending: At Hooligan’s for four months. Kevin waited tables at different restaurants before becoming a bartender about two or three years ago.
The vibe at Hooligan’s: “Rambunctious. When we get packed, we get packed.” The bar attracts mostly college students – fraternities and sororities. Several flat screen TVs line the walls, and Kevin said the bar plays all kinds of music.
Signature drink: Hooligan’s touts the mysterious “Hooli Shot,” a neon green liquor. On busy nights, Kevin goes through five or six bottles. “The recipe is actually a very closely kept secret.”
Pet Peeve: Impatient people and those who don’t listen when they’ve had too much to drink, and it’s time to go home.
Weirdest thing to happen at Hooligan’s: One Friday night, a huge man was wandering around outside in the parking lot. He barged into the bar and said, “I just wanna fight!” The police arrived and took him to jail. “I don’t know what he was on.”
Favorite thing about bartending: “People. It’s kind of a really big family – a lot of the same faces,” Kevin said as he served his mom a White Russian. “It beats the hell out of sitting in a cubicle all day.
