Telegraph Canyon's having a pretty good week.
Along with the officially-official announcement that they'll be opening for the Old 97's at Bass Hall Aug. 21, the alt-country/folkers have added a new member to an already healthy line-up, bringing the total to seven: Ex-Black Tie Dynasty keyboardist Brian McCorquodale will help out on pedal steel, piano, synth and extra drum parts, according to TC frontman Chris Johnson.
McCorquodale will make his debut with the band this weekend, during a trio of Telegraph Canyon shows in Dallas, Austin and Fort Worth. "We're proud to have him be a part of the group. He's the right man for the job and a good friend," Johnson says. "We're throwing him in the fire for these 3 shows coming up this weekend. We're all really looking forward to having him around."
In addition, Telegraph Canyon is readying its sophomore album for release. Titled The Tide and the Current, Johnson says the 40-minute disc is made up of 10 songs and coyly refuses to divulge any specifics beyond that. "All I'll say is we're real glad with it and are itching to tour on it and get back to making another one," he says. The Tide and the Current is due out in August, according to the band's MySpace page, but no firm date has been set.
