About the author

Robert Philpot was reading TV- and movie-review columns in TV Guide, as well as memorizing the listings, by the time he was 10 years old. Now, he writes mostly about TV, but has also contributed to the radio, movie and pop-music beats. When he’s not filling his head with noise, Robert enjoys dining out, travel, collecting old Top 40 songs on iTunes and trying to shoot lower than 110 on the golf course.

Pop quiz: How are The Supremes linked to Walter Winchell?

The answer lies within the first segment of this excellent online project by the Detroit Free Press. The project isn't new, but it just came across my social networking screen today, and I found it so cool that I had to share. The project commemorates Motown Records' 50th anniversary. WARNING: it can be timesuck. Bookmark and boogie down responsibly.
