'Tis the time of year for spring festivals, and this weekend the Denton Arts and Jazz Fest should be tops on your list.
The musical lineup is pretty impressive, including Friday night's headliner Stanley Clarke and Sunday's closing show by Brave Combo. In between, there will be gobs of music on six stages, arts, crafts, kid activities, fair food and all the other requisite elements of a spring festival. Best of all, it's free. Can't say that about next weekend's Mayfest in Fort Worth.
And it's a great excuse to check out Denton and its increasingly funky vibe. While you're there, cool off at Bahama Buck's shaved ice, one of my favorites. And if you're in the mood for a milkshake, we say the best in the Metroplex is made at Beth Marie's.
The jazz festival is in Quakertown Park, two blocks from the downtown square. Check out this little video for more details.
And if you're staying closer to home on Saturday, don't forget about Prairie Fest in east Fort Worth. I've been the last couple years, and it's a good time, too.
