Dixie House Cafe, a 25-year-old family-owned restaurant that serves home-style fare, will open in the former Bennigan’s location in downtown Fort Worth in April, its owner said.
Dale Simon, who owns the restaurant chain with his wife, Theresa, said he has been scouting a downtown location for several years. Its location on Belknap Street east of downtown draws many downtown workers, he said.
“This came together quickly,” Simon said of the downtown deal.
The restaurant, 515 Houston St., will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday, he said. The 6,400-square-foot location will be completely remodeled and will seat about 220 diners. It will have a separate door for customers picking-up to-go orders, Simon said.
This will be Dixie House Cafe’s seventh location. Its most recent store opened in July in Weatherford.
Most of the restaurant’s expansion has come in the past six years. The restaurant is well-known for its pies and desserts.
The Simons have been in the restaurant business since 1983, and at on time operated Theresa’s Cafe on Jacksboro Highway.
