Sound Files (Dec. 24): The Year in Review

Podcast: From Vampire Weekend to Jessica Simpson, we relive the best and worst of music '08.

One of the year's most hyped acts, indie rockers Vampire Weekend. Was their debut CD really all that?

Harder, better, faster, stronger: Kanye West's latest album, '808s and Heartbreak,' is one of the year's most ambitious efforts.

From Vampire Weekend to Kanye West, Taylor Swift to Coldplay, 2008 was a year of considerable hype, but only occasional greatness. Join our critics Preston Jones and Ryan Peterson as they consider the highs (Kanye West), the lows (Jessica Simpson) and everything in between.

We sift through the remains of 2008, picking out what went right and what went wrong.
Vampire Weekend: From best to 19th best?

Segment 2: Picking the best album of the year

Did Kanye's 'SNL' performance save his year?

Segment 3: The year's best local act
Not content to single out national faves, we also have area acts we'd like to highlight.
Nearly nine months after their album was released, Centro-Matic is still making Ryan swoon.

Segment Four: Saving the worst for last
What would any look back be without a mention of the absolutely miserable bands/albums/trends? Preston and Ryan take a swing at that which made ’08’s music craptacular.
Preston is revolted by a countrified Simpson, but Ryan is still complaining about Chris Martin.
