Author predicts dire future for music industry

In his book 'Appetite for Self-Destruction,' author Steve Knopper portrays the record industry on the verge of collapse.
These are dire days for the American record industry. Piracy has cost the big labels billions. Rapidly emerging technologies have rendered obsolete the old way of doing business and developing new talent.
In his excellent new book, 'Appetite for Self-Destruction' (Free Press, $26), Rolling Stone writer Steve Knopper argues that the record industry saw many of these problems coming and deliberately ignored them. The current state of the industry, says Knopper, is a case study in corporate hubris.
