The Dirty (Half) Dozen

Looking for weekend plans beyond oohing and aahing at fireworks? Check these out.

Beyonce plays the AAC Sunday.

Where to see fireworks

1. Beyoncé

Appropriate that the voice and co-writer behind Independent Women will be here for the Fourth of July weekend. Of course, Mrs. Z has come a long way since that 2000 Destiny’s Child hit. She’s racked up about 25 million in album sales in her solo career alone, strutted onto the big screen in Dreamgirls and Obsessed, and hawked makeup she feels you’re worth. Expect a whole lot of melisma and a barrage of sassy anthemic hits, like Crazy in Love and Single Ladies.

When: 7:30 p.m. Sunday

Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas

Cost: $20.75-$105.75

Info:www.americanairlinescenter.com

2. Little Shop of Horrors

We can’t explain why this tale about a grotesque bloodthirsty plant and his nerdy, fame-hungry enabler has delighted fans for nearly 50 years. (The original movie version, co-starring Jack Nicholson, opened in 1960; the stage musical premiered in 1982.) Frankly, it gives us the willies. But Little Shop of Horrors endures for its spoofy goofiness and memorable music, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Be warned, though: It may be a few days before you start talking to your plants again.

When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday-July 9; 9 p.m. July 10; 2 p.m. July 11; 2 and 7 p.m .July 12

Where: Bass Hall, Fort Worth

Cost: $30-$75

Info:www.casamanana.org

3. Vans Warped Tour

That Don’t Trust Me song is punk? If the Vans Warped Tour says so. There are more than 60 acts booked for the Dallas stop of this legendary punk-music fest, including the Ataris, Bad Religion, Shooter Jennings and Meg and Dia. Oh, and 3OH!3, of Don’t Trust Me fame. The complete list is online.

When: 11 a.m. Sunday

Where: Superpages.com Center, Dallas

Cost: $35

Info:www.warpedtour.com

4. ScrewAttack Gaming Convention

Stretch those thumbs and prepare for the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention. The packed itinerary includes a Blind Folded Sonic Competition, an Angry Video Game Nerd Panel and a Cartridge Dust Blowing Competition, all of which we intend to dominate FYI, but, you know, give it your best shot. There are also info sessions, speakers, parties . . . it’s basically ’round-the-clock, so check the extensive schedule online to nail down your plan.

When: All day and night Friday-Sunday

Where: Westin Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, 4545 W. John Carpenter Freeway, Dallas

Cost: $20-$50

Info: sgconvention.com

5. Demi Lovato with David Archuleta

Competing with Beyoncé is a pair that skews a bit younger, Demi Lovato, above, and David Archuleta, whose combined age, we’re terrified to report, is 34. (Feeling old? Yes, we are.) You know DFW-born Lovato from Camp Rock and other Disney vehicles, and Archuleta from the David versus David season of American Idol. This concert should be so squeaky clean, it might count as your daily shower.

When: 7 p.m. Sunday

Where: Nokia Theater, Grand Prairie

Cost: $39.50-$49.50

Info: www.nokiatheatredfw.com

6. Stars Under the Stars: 'Top Gun’

By dusk, the temperature has usually dropped out of the three-digit range, making for a perfect popcorny atmosphere for a free flick. This week: shirtless volleyball. Er, Top Gun. Bring chairs or blankets.

When: Dusk (8:30-ish) Thursday

Where: Chisholm Trail parking lot, Fort Worth

Cost: Free

Info:www.sundancesquare.com
