Christopher Kelly writes about movies, food, books, art and popular culture for DFW.com. Born in the outer-borough splendor of Staten Island, New York, Chris has long since lost his Sopranos-like accent, but not his love of street festivals or for the 1988 Mike Nichols’ masterpiece Working Girl. He has a secret fondness for VH-1 reality programs and Jay-Z albums.

Lingerie League is truly fantasy football

What started as a Super Bowl halftime ratings gimmick has spawned an actual league, the Lingeries Football League. And guess what? DFW's got a team!

The football term "Friday Night Lights" will be turned upside down this Friday as the Dallas Desire take the field at Quick Trip Park in Grand Prairie. Their opponent in the first Lingerie Football League game in DFW will be the Denver Dream.

The huge party scene begins at 5 p.m. with beer gardens, a video game lounge, football challenges, bbq smokers, and face painting stations. Most important to me is a meet/greet with these gorgeous athletic women, including my old pal Corrie Loftin (#4). The chance to meet Corrie is worth the price of admission ($10 general admission) by itself because she is certainly one of the "Top 5 Hottest Women in DFW!"

While the game starts at 9, I am going to get there early for what promises to be a Vegas-like atmosphere because it is opening weekend at Lone Star Park and Jamie Foxx is performing in concert at Nokia Theatre. I envision a little traffic jam later on and don't want to miss any of the action.

This is not the same as the Lingerie Bowl that ran during halftime of the Super Bowl a few years back. This is real life 7-on-7 tackle football with pads and, um, other things! According to the league's power rankings, Dallas is #1 and Denver is # 3 so this should be an entertaining game and an attractive alternative to the area's other pro football team up the road in Arlington.

Tickets are available by calling 877-88-DESIRE or by visiting the QT Park box office, located next to Nokia Theatre.

The Desire's other home game is Oct. 23 against LA Temptation. Gotta love those team names!
