Hooters still going strong at 20

Hooters

DFW.com/Ben Noey Jr.

Wings are the thing at Hooters, and having Maggie Lunday bring 'em to you doesn't hurt, either.

The Hooters in southwest Fort Worth has a rather odd location. It is tucked between two of the city's busiest streets (Hulen & Bryant Irvin) with basically its own exit off of Southwest Blvd .aka 183, but first you have to get off 820. If you can decipher all of that and actually get to it, you are set for beer and wings.

To celebrate 20 years in Texas, Hooters is having different promotions on the 20th of each month. This particular locale opened in 2000 and started with a bang. I remember lines out the door and around the building just to get inside! Urban legend/wild rumor has it that Jesse Jane, an adult film star who was born in Fort Worth, and got her start at Hooters may have worked at this location. I spoke with several Hooters girls who didn't know for sure. Someone knows, but nobody's talking.

I joined my buddy Dave (the self-annointed "Breastaurant King") for the "Pre-Halloween" evening on October 20. Our waitress Kat (short for Katrina, not Katherine) was dressed as a hippie with short jeans shorts, a bikini top, a brown vest and plenty of flowers. Dave quickly pointed out that we had the hottest girl in the place waiting on us, where as he usually vetoes this particular Hooters based on past transgressions.

I got a laugh from the sign next to the TV saying "She Who Dies with the Best Tan Wins."

As we relaxed and watched the New York Yankees mow down the LA Angels in the ALCS on one of the 21 flat screens, I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. Our service was very attentive (I tend to judge that on if my drink gets empty) and my boneless wings hit the spot. I am not predicting that any of the girls we saw will go on to be as famous as Jesse Jane, but I will say that Hooters in Fort Worth is now back in the rotation. As always , Dave used his scientific method that only he knows and gave this Hooters location a strong 8!
